"If you witness unauthorized removal of trees from street easements, please call 832‑395‑7100 immediately."

Tree-lined streets are an asset in any neighborhood. They provide shade, clean the air, and help absorb excess rainwater. They also provide a safety barrier between pedestrians on the sidewalk and traffic on the street.

Trees located in the public right-of-way (typically within about 10 to 15 feet of the curb, or between the street and sidewalk) are considered street trees and belong to the City of Houston. Beautiful large trees are the result of decades of care. They can be destroyed in a matter of minutes. If you witness the removal of trees from street easements, please call 832‑395‑7100 immediately so the city can check for permits and avoid unnecessary street tree loss. This phone line is answered 24 hours a day. If a street tree needs trimming or removal, do not do it yourself. Call the city help line at 3‑1‑1.
